Saturday Adventure

After a long night at HUBPORT and a few hours of sleep our batch is up for an adventure. Our first destination is JOBS Academy, when i heard the name JOBS Academy i thought it was a training center for jobs or a company that offers job. I was wrong and amazed. I was wrong because its a school that offers programming, animation and hardware servicing. Totally amaze of their facilities, they have this computer laboratory that really "WOW's" me up. Animation laboratory with proper equipments and settings. One of the room there is DOTA room, for playing D.O.T.A ofcourse.

The School President entertained us, and offer us some beverages. She was the former President of STI Davao. We had a picture picture moment and some laugh's. Our second destination was The People's Park. We got there too early and did not witness the fountain. But, we had a great time of "picture2x" moment. It was a great day, with "padjak" moment with manong driver. :)

CentOS

Today we got to HUBPORT at exactly 11 p.m. Sir Nards ask us to continue the printing of the certificate of the student who visited today. Arrif was assigned to continue, it was 12:30 when we run out of special paper. Then Sir Nards ask us to fix a Linux computer unit, first we borrowed some monitor from the other department and look for extra lan card from the other unit when we did not find any, inside the storage room. We switch on the unit and i thought it was an Ubuntu but it was CentOS stands for Community Enterprise Operating System. CentOS is an Enterprise-class Linux Distribution derived from sources freely provided to the public by the prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor(www.centos.org).

When the unit was working including the internet connection we changed the casing for a better look. After that Sir Nards told us that we can take our rest. We slept including Sir Nards and woke up 6:00 a.m.. Today is our last day for this week in graveyard shift. Next week we might change shift with the other OJT's. It was a good week and I'm looking for more experience next week.

We got home early and sleep again, because we have somewhere to go later. Good Morning...:) zzzzZZZ..

Dual Display Computer :)

This is our third day on our graveyard shift. I’m still the last one to prepare for the night. We did not take a cab today. Instead we took a tricycle from our apartment to the exit of mamay road and took a “multicab” to Bajada. We spent 13 pesos each for the fare it was less than the taxi fare.

When we got there Sir Nards asks us to do the same maintenance on the computer inside the Creative Department. The first thing that I notice when I came in is the dual display computer unit near the entrance. I was amazed and curious on how they do manage to do it. I started the computers and then defrag and update the antivirus. And save the scanning for later, so we still have work. I began to look at the back of the system unit on how they connected the 2 monitors. Then there it was, an adaptor for the monitor (VGA to DVI Adaptor) was used to connect the other monitor. Now I want one, and I’m planning to buy one here in Davao and the monitor in Zamboanga.

Here’s a picture of that adaptor (Not from HUBPORT but the one that I search in the internet):

It was 2 a.m when our task was completed. Sir Nards told us that next week we will begin our study on the server. Hmmm…J smile face again. He then told us about his experience working as a graveyard shift for 8 months. I feel sad for him but he then told us that even though it is hard, it is still work. And that work plays a very important role in company. He then said that it is fun when there are a lot of people assigned on a night shift, because you can talk and laugh. After that we talk about NBA until 6:45 a.m. He then told the guard that we will be dismissed early because we arrived early. We got home early and slept again. And my plan for a dual display is still in the process. Hahahhahaha! :P

Taxi Again?

Today is the second day of our Graveyard Shift (GYS). Again my shift mates prepared so early, I’m still playing poker with Sheena, Vitex and Alberto. It was already 10 pm when I decide to take a bath and prepare for the night. After 30 minutes I’m all set for the night, we told Sir Vega that we are going and he told us to take care. While waiting for the tricycle again, we have decided to take a taxi for the second time. It was raining and it was cold, so we took the taxi and paid 85 pesos this time. Less 4 pesos from the last time we took a taxi to Bajada. We arrived 10 minutes early, like yesterday Ray and Emelie is sitting in front of a computer unit. We got in and wait for our turn, when the clock hits 11 p.m Ray and Emelie went home and so the other 2 admin.

Sir Nards told us to follow him to the SEO Department and check the computers. He told us to defrag the units update the antivirus and scan. Then he told us that we can take a nap while waiting for the task to be complete. I took a nap till 4 a.m then when I woke up all of the tasks in the computer were finish. We return to the sysad room and took a nap again. It was 6:45 a.m when sir nards told us that we can go home. He also told us that later we will be doing the same thing on the Technical Department.

Graveyard shift at Hubport

It's almost 11 p.m and time for our first graveyard shift. We had dinner and prepared our selves. I kept on thinking about the work on a graveyard shift. It was 10 p.m when we decide to go, my "shiftmates" and we took a taxi because we are too lazy to wait for the tricycle "4 wheels xa pero tricy tawag?".

When we arrived we were charged 89 pesos from St. Anthony Village to Bajada near Victoria Mall "ba un? o plaza?ay ewan di ko pa kabisado eh.". It was a "fair-fare", because Arrif paid... :) We got there 30 mins early, we got in and saw Ray and Emelie sitting in front of a computer doing something. We introduced our self and wait for our time to start the work. It was 10 mins before 11 o'clock one of the admins showed us the storage room, for us to know the locations of their stocks.

At exactly 11 p.m Ray and Emelie went home and the 3 of us left behind. The 2 admins also went home and only Sir Nards and the 3 of us was left for the graveyard at the System Admin Department. Sir Nards was friendly he told us that if we want to ask something about anything regarding the system admin and some operations inside, he will answer it the best way he can. He then asks us to create our OJT time sheet for their records. After that Sir Nards showed us the technical department and checked the computers "tiningnan namen kung me mga naka plug pa na computers, para next time din a sya sasama kami na lang". It was 12:10 a.m when sir Nards told us to have a break, and of course we did “kame pa?!”. We went to the nearest convenient store and bought some snacks. After that we went back, we saw sir Nards is having his coffee and “yosi” break. We talk about what they do inside and what is their work. It was a good talk, after that we got back inside and sit in front of the computer. Sir Nards told us that we can now take a nap, he even started it. Arrif and Butchi took a chair and position themselves in front of the computer to take a nap. I was not sleepy I look at the place from where I’m sitting and wonder how does that server “Hubports Brain” works. All of those Computers, Routers, Switches, Cables and etc, like in our Computer Networking (COMPNET) lecture are seen here. I keep on asking myself, How fast it is? What are the specs? What can it do? How does “it” do it? and more. I’m so eager to learn from this, I hope sir Nards have time to teach us about it.

But for now we will just slept and woke up 6:30 in the morning. We logged out and let sir Nards sign our DTR. And we went home and sleep again… J
